Policy Regarding Incoming Mail
- Mail intended for someone in the School may be rejected by our mailer
for any of the following reasons:
- Windows executables
Mail containing executable code will be rejected. This includes
script as well as binary files. This restriction helps to limit
the spread of email viruses.
- Size limits
Currently mail with a size greater than 5MB will be rejected. Email
is not a suitable mechanism for transporting large files, and few
mailers will be set up with this kind of transfer in mind.
- Spam
Mail from sites or people considered sources of spam may be rejected
or flagged in such a way as to make it easy for mail clients to filter
out.
- Relaying
We do not allow relaying from unauthorised sources.
- Malicious mail
Any mail exploiting vulnerabilities in mail clients will be rejected.
If you want to email a file to someone, we recommend that you use the
UoW dead-letter drop. You should first send a separate email to
the intended recipient so that the file is expected.
If the dead-letter drop is not suitable, please contact the intended
recipient and arrange transfer using some other mechanism such as HTTP
or FTP.
